How wrong I was.

I stumbled across The Mayfly Project and couldn’t help myself. I was a sucker for Twitter’s 140 characters, summarizing the year in 24 words? I’m a mad man.

So here goes:

Twitter is buzzing with people thankful for certain things that happened this year, marking amazing beginnings, sad endings, etc. Made me wonder, is an almost masochist mind frame, what do I have to be thankful for this year?

The answer was staring me dead in the face, really. Photography.

I may have done some photography work here and there, but this year is when I truly took it to a higher level. I took my introduction to photography class where I learnt not just the beauty of film, but the intrinsic value of black and white film photography.

So 2007, we’ve had our downs, but we’ve also had our ups. You made me realize, as lazy as I am when it comes to life, I can be extremely motivated when it comes to something I’m truly passionate about (I spent all day on my birthday in the photo lab (till I got kicked out at midnight), I insisted every print I made be as perfect as possible).

Got to meet a lot of locals around here and share photographic knowledge. I have a regular photoshoot buddy (when he can get away), and I read a decent amount of photography books, and stay up to date on the world of photography through the InterWebs. And yeah, I took some pretty damn good photographs this year too.

This is coming out longer than I really care, and I have other drafts I should be working on and publishing. So 2007, thanks. I took a picture, it’ll last longer.

What struck me the most, is how happy said person was. As if, he had no worry in the world. Just , plain simple happiness.

Another week later, on the way to class, I observed a bunch of teenagers just being silly in the car they were driving, begging truckers to honk horns and giggling endlessly when they complied. Crazy? Yeah, but they’re happy.

The more I think about it, the more I reserve judgement when it comes to the insane, crazy things that people do. If you’re not happy doing what you do, why bother doing it?

Nevertheless, I’m awake right now, and in 20 minutes, I’ll be able to watch one hour magically appear again.

Yep, after all this while, it’s still magic to me.

I’m not alone with this opinion. Hell, Scott did some research to figure out who was the first.

Twitter works. It’s easy, it’s simple. It’s what blogging should’ve been in the beginning.
